Maryann Veytsman is a senior manager in the Sobel & Co. Fraud & Forensic Services Practice Group. After immigrating to the United States with her parents, Maryann set a goal of becoming both a certified public accountant and an attorney. She put herself on the path to accomplish her career goals by first attending Rutgers University where she obtained her BS in Accounting with a minor in Political Science. She then returned to Rutgers School of Law attending evening classes until she earned her law degree. As a Certified Public Accountant and an attorney in both New York and New Jersey, Maryann has a breadth of knowledge from both perspectives that will serve Sobel & Co. clients well.
Her professional career began at Deloitte & Touche where she worked in their Parsippany office as Manager of the firm’s Assurance and Enterprise Risk Services practice area for seven years. Leveraging her CPA skills she managed audit and review engagements, assisted companies with Sarbanes Oxley section 40 compliance, investigated income statements, balance sheet accounts and key operating statistics for clients along with responsibilities with other financial information regarding public/private debt, equity offerings, acquisitions and restructuring of multinational companies.
Throughout her career Maryann has managed litigation consulting projects for large law firms, prepared expert witnesses for depositions and trial testimony on accounting topics such as bankruptcy, restructuring purchase accounting, valuation of goodwill and business combinations and advised attorneys on accounting, economic and financial matters. She also conducted corporate investigations including forensic accounting and financial investigations, securities fraud, accounting malpractices, corporate fraud and the like.
She also had the opportunity to hone her communication skills, and she is a strong asset for Sobel & Co. as a result of her familiarity working with Corporate Officers, General Counsel, Controllers, and other professionals. In addition to her other credentials, in 2011 Maryann passed the rigorous training to be admitted to the New Jersey Inns of Court, one of the oldest, largest and fastest growing legal mentoring organization is firmly rooted in the noble 800-year-old tradition of the Inns of Court in England. For over twenty years, Inns of Court have provided judges, lawyers, and law students an opportunity to participate actively in developing a deeper sense of professionalism, achieving higher levels of excellence and furthering the practice of law with dignity and integrity.
Maryann attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, graduating in May 2000 with a BS in accounting and she earned her JD from Rutgers School of Law, Newark, NJ, evening division. She is a licensed CPA in New Jersey and New York and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She passed the New York bar exam in February 2010 and New Jersey in December 2009.
