cul•ture: the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group What's so special about Sobel & Co.'s culture? Sobel & Co. is built on a culture of "true professionalism" which means that we have the courage to care about our people and their careers. We have incorporated many of the ideas put forth in David Maister’s highly regarded book, “True Professionalism,” and we have built awareness of the significance of these concepts in a variety of ways. To begin, every new employee receives a copy of the book as our welcoming gift. Then, a range of true professional programs take place throughout the year to reinforce our commitment to these practices and to recognize those who have demonstrated these important concepts. At Sobel & Co. we don’t just talk about culture, we work hard to create an environment that is both intellectually challenging, personally rewarding, and fun as well. We accomplish this by maintaining a balance between training, client contact and on-the-job experience and philanthropic activities. Learning on the Job At Sobel & Co. we know that one of the greatest benefits for our staff is that they gain exposure to real life situations very early on in their career. We are proud of our commitment to get them into the field, contributing to client engagements and providing them with the opportunity to learn based on real experiences, not just text book examples or case studies. Nothing takes the place of interacting with the client, interacting as a part of the team, and observing the decision making process. Having Fun on the Job At Sobel & Co. we believe in the concept of "work hard and play hard." While we are always mindful and respectful of our role as professionals, we also know how to have a good time!
In short, we know it feels good to do good – and we have learned to balance our priorities so that we can help our clients achieve their goals while still having fun and accomplishing good deeds. Training on the Job A career with Sobel & Co. will give you the chance to explore diverse business fields, continue to learn through company-sponsored seminars and workshops, earn new levels of responsibility in a short period of time and become involved with professional and community organizations. Core Values Dictate Behavior Finally, when all is said and done, our culture encourages our staff to go above and beyond their own personal and professional growth to contribute to the overall success of our firm. Several years ago, the leadership team at Sobel & Co. spent a significant amount of time identifying those core values that we hold most dear. These values are the foundation of our firm, and through their application we have created a unique culture. These principles are the mainstay of our philosophy. They are embedded in our daily activities, guide our decisions and influence our approach to clients and employees. The values are arranged into an acronym that spells “ENCOURAGE” – which provides an easy reminder for us all and enables us ENCOURAGE our staff to embrace these as well.
We accomplish this through two key programs - Performance and Career Excellence (PACE) and Retaining Employees Through Active Involvement Now (RETAIN). Click here to learn more about these programs. Questions? Click here to contact Molly Lockwood, Director of Human Resources.
